Owning this rug means possessing a unique piece of textile art that will never be replicated. Its construction ensures lasting quality, allowing you to enjoy the comfort and beauty of its wool fibres for many years to come.

The tradition of Afghan rug weaving is deeply rooted in the history of the Middle East, drawing on centuries-old techniques passed down through generations. These rugs often reflect the nomadic heritage and the harsh, beautiful landscapes of the region, where weaving was not just a craft but a vital expression of cultural identity.

The term Berber in this context refers to a style inspired by the iconic, thick-pile rugs traditionally woven by indigenous tribes. While the original style hails from North Africa, Afghan artisans have adapted these principles, blending them with their own regional expertise to produce rugs that are both visually striking and exceptionally durable.

Signature elements of this tradition include the use of bold, repeating patterns and a fearless approach to colour. The stripes and geometric motifs found in this piece are characteristic of a design language that values symmetry balanced by spontaneous, creative flourishes, often incorporating symbols that hold deep cultural significance for the weavers.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human connection they represent. By bringing a piece like this into your home, you are not just choosing a floor covering, but participating in a long-standing narrative of skill and heritage that honours the artisan's individual touch.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Given its size and density, creating a piece of this caliber involves months of dedicated work, as every single knot is tied individually to build the robust structure that defines its durability.

The substantial weight of 29.3 kg is a testament to the generous amount of wool used throughout the construction. This density not only enhances the feel of the pile but also guarantees that the rug maintains its shape and texture despite daily wear, showcasing the intentionality behind its creation.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
