With a density of 40,000 knots per m2, the construction offers a durable and resilient surface that absorbs sound and stands up well to everyday family life.

This exact piece is entirely one of a kind. Because no two handmade rugs are identical, owning this rug means welcoming an authentic piece of art into your home that will never be replicated.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug carries a rich craft heritage that feels both grounded and authentic, grounding your interior with honest materials and comforting tones.

Berber rugs trace their roots back to the indigenous nomadic tribes of North Africa and Central Asia, where weaving was traditionally a communal practice passed down through generations. These communities relied on local materials to create durable floor coverings designed to insulate against cold mountain and desert floors.

The hand-knotted technique used here involves tying individual strands of wool onto the foundation warp and weft threads. This traditional method creates a dense, resilient pile that maintains its appearance and tactile appeal over many years of daily use.

While traditional Berber designs often feature geometric tribal motifs, contemporary pieces like this one embrace modern artistic expressions while retaining the honesty of traditional craftsmanship. The interplay of blue and dark grey tones reflects a thoughtful evolution in regional weaving traditions.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this lineage connects your living space to centuries of textile history. It represents a celebration of human skill, cultural heritage, and sustainable natural materials that stand apart from mass-produced alternatives.

Crafted entirely by hand, this rug represents a remarkable dedication of time and skill by experienced artisans. The traditional hand-knotted technique requires patience and precision to ensure each knot is securely tied.

With a knot density of 40,000 knots per m2 distributed across a 240 x 170 cm surface, artisans place approximately 1,632,000 individual knots by hand. This painstaking process takes many months of continuous work to complete.

Weighing in at 89.8 kg, the dense construction and substantial weight reflect the generous use of quality wool and sturdy foundation materials, resulting in a robust piece built to last for generations.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
