BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown64 x 96 cm

Beluch rugs are deeply rooted in the weaving traditions of the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the Middle East. These weavers have long been celebrated for their ability to create rugs that are as portable as they are durable, historically using them to furnish tents and provide comfort during their travels.

The term Beluch refers to the specific tribal style and design language associated with these weavers. Their technique involves using high-quality Wool that is known for its natural lustre and strength. The result is a rug that feels substantial and retains its appearance even after years of use in the home.

Design-wise, these rugs are characterised by their deep, often dark palettes and geometric motifs. You will frequently see repeating diamond shapes, stylised floral elements, and precise borders that frame the field. These patterns are not just decorative but are often symbolic, passed down through generations of weavers to tell stories of their heritage.

Collectors value Beluch rugs for their authentic connection to a long-standing craft tradition. Owning one is an investment in a piece that represents human skill, cultural narrative, and a commitment to quality. Each rug provides a tangible link to a rich history, making it a meaningful addition to any collection.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and focused effort to every single piece. The process involves securing individual knots to the foundation, a methodical approach that ensures the rug maintains its shape and structural integrity for years to come.

The 1.7 kg weight of this 96 x 64 cm rug is a testament to the amount of material and labour invested in its creation. A higher concentration of material relative to its size results in a more substantial, durable, and resilient floor covering that stands up to the demands of a busy home.

The precision required to create such a detailed pattern by hand is substantial. By investing in a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises quality and longevity over speed, resulting in a floor covering that is built to last.
