Baluch PatinaHand KnottedRug

Black / BrownRunner95 x 219 cm

This runner originates from the rich weaving traditions of the Middle East, specifically associated with the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the region. These rugs are historically celebrated for their ability to translate the vast, rugged landscapes of their origin into complex, geometric visual narratives.

The term 'Beluch' refers to the tribal heritage of the weavers, who are renowned for their ability to create rugs that are both practical for camp life and highly artistic. The 'patina' seen in this piece is a natural evolution of age, where the wool, dyes, and daily interaction create a softened, harmonious aesthetic that is highly sought after by collectors.

Signature design elements in this tradition often include bold geometric medallions and repeating motifs, framed by intricate, multi-layered borders. The dark-red and black tones are characteristic of the natural dye palettes historically used by these tribes, providing a deep, saturated look that anchors a room.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor; it is about preserving a craft that has been passed down through generations. These rugs are valued for their cultural weight and the undeniable skill required to weave such complex patterns without modern machinery, marking them as true heirlooms.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and steady focus from skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a dense, resilient structure that gives the rug its lasting quality and distinctive texture.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour. This level of precision is what allows for the sharpness of the geometric motifs and ensures that the pile remains firm and supportive over time.

The construction is balanced by a total weight of 5.2 kg, a testament to the generous use of wool and the sturdy foundation. This weight is a clear indicator of the rug's density and the significant human effort invested in its creation, ensuring it stays securely in place while providing a premium experience.
