Ardebil rugs originate from the city of Ardebil in the northwestern part of the Middle East, a region with a long and prestigious history of textile production. These rugs are celebrated for their ability to blend traditional regional motifs with a bold, often geometric aesthetic that feels both ancient and relevant.

The construction of an Ardebil rug often involves a classic knotting technique that results in a sturdy, reliable foundation. This traditional method of securing the wool pile ensures the rug can withstand years of movement while maintaining its vibrant colours and clear, sharp patterns.

Design-wise, these rugs are famous for their repeating medallions and decorative borders. The motifs often tell a story of regional identity, with angular lines and stylized floral or geometric forms that create a harmonious balance across the length of the runner.

Owning an Ardebil rug is an opportunity to connect with a deep cultural heritage. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their combination of durability and artistry, representing a long-standing commitment to quality that transcends changing trends.

This runner is carefully hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By knotting each individual strand of wool onto a sturdy cotton foundation, the artisans create a dense and resilient pile that is built for longevity and daily use.

With a weight of 4.7 kg, this piece demonstrates a significant investment of material and labour. The density of the construction is a direct result of the hours spent by hand, ensuring a robust structure that maintains its shape and pattern definition over time.

The precision of the hand-knotted technique allows for the intricate geometric details seen in the medallion motifs. This level of craftsmanship is what elevates the rug from a simple floor covering to a lasting piece of functional art, made to be appreciated for its human touch.
