Black / Brown126 x 192 cm

Afshar rugs are deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the Middle Eastern tribal groups who have migrated and settled across the region for centuries. These rugs are highly regarded for their distinct identity, often blending nomadic aesthetic traditions with more formal, settled design influences.

The quality of these rugs is defined by their dense, hand-knotted construction, which uses durable wool to create a pile that is both soft and incredibly resilient. This traditional approach ensures that the rugs are not merely decorative but are capable of withstanding the rigours of everyday use while maintaining their lustrous finish.

Visually, the Afshar tradition is celebrated for its use of bold, stylized floral motifs and geometric medallions. The deep black field featured in this piece serves as a classic canvas, allowing the vibrant red tones of the floral elements to pop with clarity, adhering to the storied colour palettes that have defined this region's output for generations.

Owning an Afshar rug is an investment in cultural history and skilled craftsmanship. These pieces are collected by those who value the human story behind every thread, representing a legacy of artistry that continues to be passed down through generations of talented weavers.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that involves hundreds of thousands of individual knots tied by skilled artisans. This laborious technique is what grants the rug its impressive density and structural integrity, ensuring the pattern remains sharp and the pile stays resilient over time.

Given the density of 490,000 knots per m2 and its overall size of approximately 2.4 square metres, this piece represents over a million individual knots. The significant time and human effort required to complete such a complex work of art are reflected in the precision of the design and the long-lasting quality of the final product.

The construction is further strengthened by the use of a sturdy cotton foundation, which provides the necessary tension to hold the intricate knotting in place. This combination of premium materials and expert hand-knotting results in a robust, high-quality rug that is built to endure.
