Design

The rug features a dominant red background with contrasting dark blue and orange geometric elements. A central field displays ornate medallions and scattered floral motifs surrounded by a structured decorative border.

Afghan Khal Mohammadi rugs are highly regarded for their rich history and distinctive style, developed by the master weaver Khal Mohammadi in northern Afghanistan. Known for their deep, warm tones, these rugs represent a significant evolution in Afghan weaving traditions.

The signature design of a Khal Mohammadi rug is characterised by its striking red field, often decorated with repeating medallions and tribal motifs in dark blue and black. These geometric patterns and structured borders create a balanced, harmonious layout that has captivated collectors for decades.

Woven using high-quality wool, these rugs are celebrated for their durability and lustrous finish. The careful hand-knotting technique ensures that the dense pile remains resilient, preserving the clarity of the intricate patterns over time.

Owning an Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug is an investment in a living craft tradition. Each piece carries the cultural heritage of the region, making it a meaningful addition to any home seeking a touch of classic warmth and character.

This piece is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a process requiring patience, precision, and decades of shared knowledge. Every single detail in the pattern is formed by tying individual wool knots onto the foundation.

Weighing 3.2 kg for its compact 128 x 80 cm size, the rug demonstrates a dense and substantial construction. This weight reflects the generous amount of wool used and the tightness of the weave, ensuring a durable structure that will lie flat and secure on your floor.
