Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark redRunner77 x 282 cm

Afghan Akhche rugs have a long history rooted in the weaving traditions of northern Afghanistan. These rugs are traditionally crafted by skilled weavers who have passed down their knowledge and design patterns through generations, preserving a rich cultural legacy.

The design of this runner is characterised by the classic Akhche style, which is known for its deep red fields and repeating geometric motifs. These traditional patterns represent tribal symbols and family emblems, carrying stories of the weavers' heritage and daily life.

The rich dark-red and black tones are characteristic of the region, achieved through traditional dyeing methods that give the wool its deep, lustrous appearance. The formal geometric borders frame the central field, creating a balanced and harmonious composition.

Rugs from this Afghan tradition are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their cultural depth and honest craftsmanship. Acquiring a piece like this means bringing a slice of Central Asian history into your living space, where its classic design will continue to be appreciated.

This runner is hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a process that requires patience, precision, and years of training. Every single knot is tied individually by hand, creating a robust structure that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

With a weight of 6.7 kg for its 282 by 77 cm size, this rug demonstrates a dense and substantial construction. This weight indicates the generous amount of wool used in the pile, resulting in a thick, durable floor covering that lies flat and secure on your floor.

The creation of a hand-knotted runner of this length represents weeks of dedicated daily labour. This human effort ensures that each detail of the geometric pattern is clearly defined, making the rug a valuable investment in traditional craftsmanship.
