Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red72 x 118 cm

Afghan rug-making traditions have roots deep in the cultural heritage of Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers passed down intricate patterns and knotting techniques through generations.

These designs often reflect the surroundings and stories of the artisans who created them.

The term Afghan Fine refers to a tradition of careful wool selection and precise knotting techniques.

Using quality wool yarn allows the pile to retain its natural lanolin, which provides a resilient, soil-resistant surface and a soft lustre.

Traditional Afghan carpets frequently feature characteristic geometric motifs and medallion layouts enclosed by structured borders.

These repeating elements are woven from memory or traditional design maps, maintaining a visual language that connects modern homes to centuries of weaving history.

Collecting a rug from this region means acquiring an authentic piece of cultural heritage.

The combination of durable wool construction and traditional hand-knotting represents a standard of craftsmanship valued by collectors and homeowners alike.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans, involving a meticulous process where every single knot is tied by hand onto the foundation.

With a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2, creating a rug of this 118 x 72 cm size requires months of dedicated human labour, resulting in a remarkably dense and durable pile that holds its shape and pattern definition over time. A higher knot count means greater durability, finer detail reproduction, and a superior quality that stands the test of time.

The combination of the 2.6 kg weight and fine hand-knotting reflects a high level of craft dedication, ensuring a sturdy structure and a resilient surface for your home.
