Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red146 x 199 cm

The Afghan Akhche rug is deeply rooted in the weaving traditions of Northern areas of the Middle East, a region with a long history of nomadic and semi-nomadic carpet production. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to blend ancient tribal patterns with a colour palette that remains vibrant and relevant in contemporary homes.

The term 'Fine' in this context refers to the thoughtful selection of materials and the precision of the knotting technique. By using high-quality Wool for the pile, the weavers create a surface that is both resilient and soft, ensuring that the rug is not only a visual delight but also a functional investment for your home.

The design language of this rug is defined by its iconic gul motifs—octagonal medallions that represent traditional tribal heritage. The deep red background, often achieved using natural dyes, is a hallmark of the region, symbolising warmth and vitality. These motifs are carefully balanced against complex borders, creating a harmonious and balanced aesthetic.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them. Owning an Afghan Akhche is an act of preserving a cultural legacy, as each piece reflects the unique creative vision of the weaver. It is this combination of artistic expression and lasting durability that makes these rugs prized additions to any interior.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused labour to ensure every detail is perfect. With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction process is a testament to precision, resulting in a robust and durable pile that is built to last for generations. The high knot density provides a firmer, more resilient pile that resists wear and retains its shape over years of heavy foot traffic.

The substantial weight of 9 kg for this 199 x 146 cm size highlights the density of the materials and the intensity of the effort invested. By using high-quality Wool, the weavers achieve a level of structural integrity that ensures the rug remains flat and stable, maintaining its intended shape and beauty through years of use.
