80 x 120 cm rugs

80 x 120 cm rugs work best as a placement rug rather than a whole-room rug – a hallway or entrance, one side of a bed, in front of the kitchen sink or hob, tucked under an armchair, or as a soft spot on the floor in a child’s room. Finding the perfect 80 x 120 rug

At this size, material matters more than usual, since smaller-sized rugs get picked up, shaken out and stepped on directly rather than tucked under furniture. Hand-knotted wool designs – including oriental styles such as Gabbeh, Bokhara and Turkaman – are the most hard-wearing and develop character with age, making them a considered choice for a spot you’ll use every day. 80 x 120 wool rugs with fringes are lighter and simpler to lift for cleaning. Jute designs bring a natural, textured look and suit a lower-traffic spot, such as beside the bed, rather than a doorway that sees daily wear.

Frequently asked questions

An 80 x 120 cm rug converts to roughly 2’7″ x 3’11”. Many of our 80 x 120 cm rugs are hand-knotted, so the exact size on any single rug can be a few centimetres larger or smaller than the nominal measurement – check the product page for the precise dimensions before you buy.

It’s a small-format rug rather than a room centrepiece. An 80 x 120 rug suits a hallway or entrance, one side of a double or king bed, in front of a sink or hob, or as a single accent by an armchair. For a living room seating area, look at our medium or large sizes instead.

On its own, an 80 x 120 cm rug is best placed to one side of the bed as a soft spot to step onto, rather than centred underneath it – a double or king bed needs at least 200 x 300 cm to sit under with a border showing. Two 80 x 120 cm rugs, one on each side, is a popular alternative to a single larger rug.

Hand-knotted wool designs are the most durable and hold up well in a hallway or entrance. Jute adds natural texture and suits a lower-traffic spot, such as beside the bed, rather than a busy doorway.
